Mass Spectrometry Research Group

In 1991, Prof. Igor Revelsky initiated the creation of the research and training center of Neolab company. The center was established at the Division of Analytica Chemistry of Moscow State University with the support of Prof. Yury Zolotov. The center was equipped with powerful analytical instruments (gas chromatographs with all types of detectors, mass spectrometers with electron and chemical ionization, supercritical fluid extraction/chromatography system). Modern laboratory instrumentation and facilities were used to teach students and conduct scientific research at a high level.

In the following years, the equipment fleet was expanded and modernized with the support of grants and projects. Currently, the laboratory is equipped with gas and ion chromatographs, mass spectrometers with electronic and chemical ionization, elemental analyzers, and systems for measuring total organic halogens and sulfur.

So far, numerous MSc students and more than twenty Ph.D. students have graduated from the laboratory.

Our main research themes are:

  • environmental analysis;
  • the determination of impurities in pharmaceuticals;
  • the comparison of pharmaceutical products containing the same active ingredient (the original and generic drugs);
  • the quality assessment of food products and raw materials;
  • metabolomics and the diagnosis of diseases (using samples of blood, serum, hair, or exhaled breath condensate);
  • the application of computational methods and chemometric techniques for processing multivariate data;
  • the development of identification techniques for semivolatile compounds;
  • the application of 3D printing technology in analytical chemistry.
